A versatile restaurant app for both customers and restaurant owners: reservation for customers, booking management and CRM dashboards for owners.
Cari Resto is a restaurant reservation platform that enables customers to make reservations, choose their tables, order from the menu, and make payments—all within the app. Additionally, restaurant management and owners can handle all activities through the Restaurant Management System.
In this project, our goal is to design a seamless experience across multiple platforms. This includes a customer-facing mobile app, a cashier & CRM app, and a monitoring app for owners. Our design process ensures that each application is intuitive, efficient, and tailored to meet the needs of its users.

Despite the limited timeline, we were able to understand the app’s user needs and behaviour through stakeholder interviews. It is not the most ideal way – we know, and we are fully aware that user interviews or surveys are necessary. However, time constraints should not prevent us from creating the best experience possible to our clients and their app’s users. Therefore, with the stakeholders’ competence and experience in restaurant businesses, we were able to discover and understand the users’ needs and behaviours.
After understanding the user needs and behaviours, we started to discuss the app requirements. This process defines the app features that must be built to solve the user’s problems and achieve the business goals.
Competitive study gives us the idea of how competitors build their app features and interactions. The pros and cons of the competitor’s apps user flow are analysed. Some of the relevant ideas are even adopted in our project to make sure that our app offers a better experience for the users than their apps.
We started to build the design by creating a wireframe and userflow first. This can help us determine how the basic layout and UX flow can be comfortable for users.
Wireframes and flows are created based on the types of products of CariResto, i.e. mobile apps for customers, tab apps for restaurant managers, and mobile apps for the owner. All flows should be created as smoothly as possible with a good data flow between the three products mentioned above.
The 3 products of CariResto have different user characteristics and needs. We realize the importance of empathy with the user so that we can create UX & UI designs that match their expectations.
For the customer app, we put more emphasis on how they can browse restaurants and make bookings quickly and easily. For the manager app, the main requirement is to track orders quickly, so that chefs can prepare ordered items accordingly. For owner apps, the main need is to see reports about finances and also the performance of employees.
One of the laws of UX, named Tesler's Law, states that sometimes we can't make things simpler. Likewise, the process for booking a restaurant cannot be separated from choosing a restaurant, table position, and the menu to be ordered. In our UX & UI design, we use a stepper system so that these complex steps can be broken down into 3 simple steps that don't burden the user to order a restaurant.
We make the visuals and interface of the CariResto apps as attractive as possible by using lots of fun illustrations. So it is hoped that this app will also be interesting to use for millennials or Gen Z.
In the app for managers, 3 main menus are highlighted: monitoring for check-ins, reserved tables, and ordered menus. These three menus are what the manager will immediately see when they enter the application's main page. The design of this manager app must also accommodate to handle the customers who book online through the app, or book offline by coming directly to the restaurant.
The manager app can also be used by cashiers to calculate prices, create bills, and process payments for customers. Cashiers and managers will use the same application, but the features in it will differ based on their user role.
One of the principles of good UX & UI design is consistency. The design system was developed in order to maintain this consistency as the product design will continue to develop in the future. The visual UI theme in the design system for CariResto is a simple design but still has a youthful spirit so that it can attract users from all walks of life.
